Leasehold data is a valuable source of intel for a lot of property professionals.

Knowing when a lease is up can help you time your approach, whether you want to buy the site, find a new tenant, or poach away the existing tenant to a site of your own, for instance.

LandInsight Unlimited customers can access leasehold data (and the accompanying intel) via their account as standard.

Not an Unlimited customer yet, but interested in upgrading? Use the in-app chat function and we’ll talk you through it.

How do I access leasehold data for a specific site?

Sometimes you want to see the leaseholder information for a specific site of interest.

To do this, simply click on the site using the Ownership layer. Any leaseholder data will appear in the panel on the right-hand side.

You can then click through to see more detail about the leaseholder, like:

  • Company details

  • Ultimate owner (where applicable)

  • Date of the last ownership change

  • Leasehold end date (where available)

Plus you can purchase the title register from Land Registry straight through your account (at cost).

Can I search by leasehold data?

Instead of just looking at specific sites, you can actually search by leasehold dates too.

For instance, you might want to find a site with 6-12 months left on the lease so you can approach the owner to buy the site when the lease ends.

To do this:

  1. Head to the Ownership layer and open the Ownership Search on the left-hand side.

  2. Select ‘Leasehold’ from the drop down menu next to the search

  3. Click ‘Filters’ to set a leasehold start and end date for your search

Your search results will be listed below and will be highlighted on the map.

You can even layer this search with other filters, including things like parcel size and date of last ownership change, so you can get a ready-made list of viable sites for your plans.

How often is the data updated?

We get all the data from HM Land Registry and update on a monthly basis.

If the data isn’t available from HM Land Registry, you will see the message “Leasehold end date: Data not available from HMLR”.
